# Scope and legal

- **Geolocating a person is sensitive.** Finding where a news photo was taken is verification; finding where a
private person lives from their holiday photos can enable stalking. Only geolocate people's images when your
purpose clearly justifies it, and never publish a private person's location.
- **Uploading is sharing.** Opening a reverse-search link sends the image URL to that search engine. For sensitive
material, prefer engines you trust, or skip the step.
- **Copyright.** Downloading a photo to analyse it is generally fine; republishing it is not. Keep originals with the
case notes and link to the source instead of re-posting.
- **Keep the chain.** Note where you got each image, when, and its SHA-256 (from `image-hash`), so you can show it
  was not altered.
